By

Are you a talker or a texter?

If you are a talker it really is about time you learned how to text message. Your cell phone can do so much more than make calls, and sending short messages via text is something that is quick, easy and can even be cheaper than spending hours on the phone.

Text messages or SMS messages are the two key terms used for this method of communication, meaning one and the same thing. You will find that once you get into texting you won't want to stop!

If you have children, ask them to teach you how to text as this is by far the most popular means of communication between the younger generation. If not, why not try the internet where there are several websites that can teach you the art of texting on your cell phone.

In the United States, over half a million text messages are sent every minute of the day, that is how popular text messaging is!

Why learn how to text message?

You can reach anyone at any time without having to disturb them. You can answer a text message when it suits you, and say as much or as little as you like under no pressure to say any more than you feel necessary.

As a silent conversation, it is more private and it is also quick. You can avoid long boring telephone conversations and avoid being called at an inconvenient time of the day. If you don't want to talk to anyone, you can switch off your phone and the text message will be waiting for you when you decide to switch it back on again.

Best of all, texting is cheaper than a phone call. Parents like the texting facility so that they can keep in touch with their teenagers, although I am not so sure that the feeling is mutual.

If you hate talking on the phone, it is time that you found out how to text message and utilize your cell phone!

Learn a new language

If you want to know how to text message you are exposing yourself to the opportunity of learning a completely new language. Text speak and texting abbreviations and acronyms are something that are becoming more and more popular as people are shortening words and phrases down in order to fit them into these short text messages. When texting, you have to throw all your grammar and punctuation rules out of the window. This is probably why children love texting.

It may be confusing at work when you receive text messages that look like they are written in code. However, as you learn how to text message it will all become clearer to you and second nature when you get used to this. Check online for a text language dictionary if you want to know more on the subject.

Making the most of text messages found online

Even though you have to text in a special shorthand, there are times when you want to send a personal message. If you aren't good with words, or are feeling lazy, you can find free funny, romantic, or friendship text messages online to copy as and pass off as your own. Use emoticons or smiley's to express your emotions or feelings to those that you are texting as well.

Rules and etiquette

When you are learning how to text message you also have to learn rules and etiquette. These should be the same as for cell phones in general. Don't spoil it for everyone else by sitting with a group of friends and going off into your own little world to text. Even if you do feel the need to constantly text around other people, or at school and work, put your phone on silent mode. It is very irritating for others to hear a loud message-received beep while you are trying to enjoy yourself or in the middle of something that involves concentration.

A time and a place

When you have learned how to text message and have got into the swing of things you will find that you are spending a bit more time with your cell phone in your hand, in truth it can become quite addictive, just ask any teenager or young adult. You can send messages anywhere and at any time, however there are times when you need to resist temptation such as when you are driving. Texting and driving is very dangerous as you have to take your eyes and concentration off of the road in front of you and this means you are putting your own life and the lives of other at risk, not worth it to check or send a text message or two. Never text while you are in control of a motor vehicle, it is as simple as that.

Don't get left behind, learn how to text message

It is a fact that millions more people are picking up using cell phones every single year and you are going to be hard pushed to find people in places such as North America and Europe that don't have them.

Texting is something that many of these people already do at will or are learning how to do, so don't get left behind. Join them, make the most of your cell phone, and learn how to text message, you will be happy that you did!
